The Challenge

From December 2024, 2Stroke will be rowing across the Atlantic Ocean in the World’s Toughest Row, racing unsupported for 3000 miles from La Gomera in the Canary Islands to English Harbour, Antigua.

Both Karl and Ed will take turns on the oars, 2 hours on and 2 hours off, undertaking their 2 hour shifts for a minimum of 12 hours per day each, and never sleeping for more than 2 hours at a time. Our only contact with the world will be via a satellite phone, as the race is completely unassisted and we will carry everything we need for up to 2 months at sea in our Rannoch R25 rowing vessel. From the dangers of 40ft waves and sea sickness, to Marlin strikes and salt sores, The World’s Toughest Row is the ultimate test of physical and mental endurance!

Karl Austen and Ed Shaw will take on the challenge in the hope of raising awareness and money for both Dementia UK and Prostate Cancer UK.

HOW CAN YOU HELP?

The challenge is the world’s toughest rowing race. This is an opportunity to be part of a life-changing campaign, not just for those of us who will complete the row, but through the sponsorship money raised, for those who are not fortunate enough to be able to. We have committed £10,000 of our own money to the cause but need your help to reach our target of £200,000 – needed to make the expedition possible and in parallel raise a whole lot of money for two amazing causes.

Supporting our chosen charities is a key driver for us taking on this challenge. Both of these charities are close to our hearts, and we have family members affected by both Alzheimer’s Disease and Prostate Cancer.

We are of course seeking corporate sponsorship to help meet our target and have created various packages to allow all sizes of business to get involved. From boat naming rights to prominent logo branding, oar branding, clothing and online visibility reaching a massive worldwide audience, there are options to suit all that can support us. We would love the opportunity to discuss with you a sponsorship package that meets your needs and look forward to working with our partners to help us meet the challenge head-on.

We also want to create an opportunity for individual investors and small businesses to become a part of the race. Our ‘250 Club’ will give the opportunity for those that can sponsor us £250 the chance to have your name on the boat so that you can, in-mind if not physically, complete the challenge with us. We offer all who can contribute to the ‘250 Club’ the opportunity to leave a short message for us that will help to drive us through the toughest of times during the race. These messages will be fed to us by our land crew at regular intervals during the race. Something tells us we’re going to need these uplifting words when we face the inevitable lows during the row.
